AIDS

   Hispanic Americans accounted for 18% of all HIV/AIDS cases in 2005. Hispanic males are 3 times as likely to have AIDS in 2005 as compared to non-Hispanic white males, and Hispanic females are over 5 times as likely to have AIDS in 2005 as non-Hispanic white females. Hispanic men were 2.6 times as likely as non-Hispanic white men to die of HIV/AIDS in 2004 and Hispanic women were four times as likely as non-Hispanic white women to die of HIV/AIDS in 2004 (www.cdc.gov).

   Sandra Yudilevich, a graduate student at the University of Georgia and a volunteer for AIDS Athens, will be presenting a seminar on HIV/AIDS for the women at Pinewoods on June 12th from 6:00-7:00pm. She will be offering free, anonymous HIV testing after the seminar.
