     The Latino Population in Georgia is 1.3 times more likely to develop diabetes than their non-Hispanic white counterparts; those Latinos of Mexican origin are more than twice as likely to develop diabetes than their non-Hispanic white counterparts.

     Melanie Cassity, the Diabetes Education Specialist at Athens Regional Medical Center will present the first seminar, May 29th at 6:00 pm on Diabetes. She is presenting a video in Spanish on nutrition for persons with or at risk for diabetes, and will demonstrate how to test blood sugar on several glucose meters she will be bringing for donation. She will be available afterwards for questions.
